3 things I would NEVER do as a dermatologist 👩⚕️👇
1️⃣ Keep getting gel manicures for years without a break.
UV nail lamps expose your hands to ultraviolet light every time you get your nails done. While the risk from occasional use is low, years of repeated exposure can add up. If you love gel nails, consider applying SPF to the backs of your hands or wearing UV-protective manicure gloves before your appointment.
2️⃣ Take skincare or medical advice from influencers without checking the source.
Just because someone has millions of followers doesn’t mean they’re qualified to diagnose skin conditions or recommend treatments. Your skin is unique, and what works for one person could make someone else’s skin worse. Always look for advice from board-certified dermatologists or your own healthcare provider.
3️⃣ Use cheap skincare loaded with ingredients I can’t even identify.
More ingredients doesn’t mean better results. Many inexpensive products are packed with unnecessary fragrances, essential oils, or trendy actives that can irritate the skin—especially when combined together. I prefer products with well-studied ingredients, clear formulations, and a purpose behind every ingredient.
