Alopecia

Established in 2008, Derrow Dermatology is committed to providing the highest standard of dermatological care in a convenient, state-of-the-art setting to patients of all ages.

Have You Noticed Your Hair Becoming Thinner or Falling Out Faster Than Normal?  You may have alopecia.

What Is Alopecia?

Alopecia (hair loss) comes in many forms. It can be caused by genetics, hormonal changes, inflammation, adverse reaction to medications, or even stress. Alopecia can happen in sudden patches or develop gradually over time until baldness occurs. Understanding the cause of your hair thinning is essential to obtaining proper treatment and prevention.

There are several ways to diagnose which type of hair loss you may be experiencing. First, Dr. Witt will start with a simple examination of the scalp to determine the extent of hair loss. Further tests may include a scalp biopsy or blood tests.

What Treatment Options Are Available?

At Derrow Dermatology, we provide a wide range of alopecia treatments depending on the severity of your condition. Treatments aim to stimulate hair regrowth and prevent future hair loss. In some cases, we’re able to reverse the hair loss through the use of:

  • Topical Steroids
  • Steroid Injections
  • Oral Treatments (Spironolactone, Plaquenil, Nutrafol)

Dr. Witt may also recommend a change to your hair care regimen to stimulate new hair growth and prevent further hair loss.
